#29 - The Dream

You very seldom remember dreaming about anything at night, and when you do it’s almost always in black and white. But now, for the ninth or tenth time, you’ve had the same vivid dream again:

You’re in a large room with plastered walls, some of which have cracked with age. Some areas have been patched, while others have not, leaving a mesh of wire and strips of lath visible beneath. The room itself is a hodge-podge of objects: an antique armoire painted pea-green sits in one corner, on top of which rests a flower pot sprouting daisies that sing and dance; a kitschy Fifties-style kitchen table with a geometric design Formica top and ribbed aluminum trim hugs one wall; pink plastic flamingos wearing plaid bow ties hang from the ceiling; a mannequin sporting a yellow chiffon tutu, black stiletto high heels, cracked hockey mask, and wielding a purple chainsaw lurks in another corner. Completing the scene are hundreds of miniature twinkling Christmas lights interwoven into a fishing net suspended from the ceiling, and dozens of CD’s and old-style vinyl records painted to look like bloodshot eyes decorating the walls.

Despite the inexplicably bizarre décor, what captures your attention is the girl...

Hidden deep within the forest of our minds is a maze. Some wander it, lost. Occasionally, however, two paths may intersect.
