#32 - The Magician

Why can’t you hold down a job? You’re not lazy. You show up every day, on time. You take a short lunch and work right through your breaks. You’re pleasant, and try to be helpful.

It’s probably because you always manage to screw something up, regardless of the job. When you were mowing lawns you always ran over someone’s prize rose bush, or mangled at least one sprinkler head in the lawn. Detailing cars sounded simple enough, but some car keys you had in your pocket poked through and ripped a gash in a Mercedes’ leather seats. That woman with the Lexus wasn’t too happy either when you raised up your head while vacuuming out the inside and cracked your head on the rearview mirror, breaking it loose from its mount and shattering the glass.

Even flipping burgers didn’t work out. There were grease fires, dropping open bags of frozen fries all over the floor, and accidentally shutting the manager in the freezer. You got your final paycheck when the contact lens you lost somehow ended up in a customer’s salad...

Hocus pocus presto change-o! You thought sleight of hand would be a quick and easy way to pay the bills. But yours is a special case, and the job carries with it some very special responsibilities.
