#1 - Sunrise
It is a day like any other – another gray link in an endless chain of tedium. You rub the sleep from your eyes, and set about the mundane liturgy that is your morning. You shower, thinking about the bills you have to pay, the house repairs that are needed, and the day you face at work. You shave, all the time wondering if the car’s going to start, and where you’re going to find the money for the kids’ braces.
You have a few moments before you need to leave, so you walk down the oil-stained driveway to get the paper. You always look at only the first few lines of each front-page article. You read the newspaper not because you enjoy it, but due to some sense of social responsibility – so you “know what’s going on in the world”, and have something to talk about with your peers. You really don’t care much about world affairs: you can’t do anything about it, the people you voted for don’t do anything about it, and the people of the world don’t seem inclined to do anything about it, so what’s the use?
Before you bend down to retrieve the paper, you turn to the east to look at the sunrise. A few birds are on the wing, the air smells fresh, and dark silhouettes of trees are painted on a background of myriad colors, most of which no mortal even has a name for. Now there’s something worth seeing – some of the greatest work ever, by your God, or anyone else’s.
You yawn and stretch, but suddenly feel something is terribly wrong. You feel light-headed, and your still outstretched arms...
So you think your life's going to be the same today as it was yesterday and the day before that?
You couldn't be more wrong.
In the first rabbit hole, "Sunrise", your life is going to become much, much different.
