#40 - Sunset
It is the end of another very long day. You clean up the last of the paperwork on your desk, read the threatening email from your manager, then turn off your computer and the light in your cubicle.
Exiting the office building you make your way down the sidewalk through a sea of shoving pedestrians, and brave the onslaught of homicidal taxi drivers and behemoth buses to cross the street. You follow the sidewalk to the edge of the park and seat yourself on a park bench, taking in the noise and confusion of life in the city.
As bad days go, this was by far the worst. You’ve had a pounding headache since you woke up this morning; your car got a flat on the way to work; you were railed on the entire day, if not by customers, then by your boss; rumors of a mass layoff are in the air; and to top it off, someone stole your lunch out of the refrigerator in the break room. By this point in the day, your stomach is tied in knots and the headache has become a full-blown migraine.
Someone at work jokingly said that you should go to your “happy place”, wherever that might be. Other people talk about theirs – a cabin on a meadow...
Rabbit holes are odd in that they have a beginning, but not necessarily an end. Once inside, you can wander endlessly, creating new pathways and warrens as you travel.
